چکیده

A composite self-excited PZT-glass cantilever (4mm in length and 2mm width) was fabricated and used to measure attachment of model protein and a model pathogen. Key feature of the microcantilever is that its resonant frequency is dependent on its mass. The cantilever had a mass sensitivity of 5x10-11 g/Hz. The change in resonant frequency was measured as antibody, protein, reacts with the amine-derivatized sensing glass surface and pathogen, Group A Streptococcus, attaches to the antibody immobilized microcantilever. Very low pathogen concentration (640 bacteria/mL) was successfully detected, thus demonstrating the usefulness of the cantilever for detecting water-borne pathogens.

Development of a piezoelectric self-excitation and self-detection mechanism in PZT microcantilevers for dynamic scanning force microscopy in liquid

We report on the first successful operation of a cyclic contact scanning force microscope ~SFM! using a self-excited cantilever in liquid. Based on a new structure including a PZT reference pattern and a free-standing PZT cantilever, the piezoelectric self-excitation and self-detection mechanism for a PZT microcantilever was developed successfully. The topography is recorded by measuring the pi...

Fabrication and structural characterization of a resonant frequency PZT microcantilever

The fabrication and structural characterization of a surface micromachined, resonant frequency, Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 (PZT) microcantilever will be presented. The PZT microcantilever was fabricated using surface micromachining techniques, and used a low-stress silicon nitride thin film as the base material for the microcantilever onto which a PZT thin film was incorporated. The PZT thin film is used as ...

Rapid discrimination of DNA strands using an opto-calorimetric microcantilever sensor.

A rapid technique for quantitative detection and discrimination of DNA strands without using immobilized probe molecules is demonstrated using an opto-calorimetric, self-powered sensor based on a Pb(Zr(0.52)Ti(0.48))O3 (PZT) microcantilever. Microcalorimetric infrared (IR) spectroscopy provides excellent chemical selectivity based on the unique molecular vibrational characteristics of each nucl...

Comparison of Antibacterial Activity of Self-adhesive Flowable Composite, Microhybrid Flowable Composite and Self-curing Glass Ionomer Against Streptococcus Mutans: An In Vitro Study

Background and purpose: Antibacterial properties of restorative materials are of great advantage as they control the progression of tooth decay. The use of self-adhesive composite materials has some benefits such as easier application and reduced treatment time. Because the antibacterial properties of restorative materials can play an important role in preventing secondary decay, especially in ...
